Mammon and the Archer
Using the two short stories by O
Henry of "Mammon and the Archer" and "The Last Leaf" discuss the theme of
1 Define and explain the theme of selflessness. What is selflessness and what kind of selflessness is seen in these two stories.
2 Find three points within each story that seem to match up or contradict each other that DIRECTLY RELATES TO THE THEME. These points can be made with characters, setting, tone, situation... Example: which characters display selflessness and how do they show it. Or what situation exists that proves this selflessness? or what symbols show this selflessness? The points have to show in BOTH stories, whether in the same way or differently. 3 Find specific lines in the dialogue or the narration to prove what you are saying. The point and the quote must be consistent with the definition of the theme of selflessness.
4 Show how each point relates to the theme through transitions and connections.
5 Pull it all together at the end by bringing back the theme and reiterating without repeating how these stories prove this idea either in the same way or differently.
Do not summarize any of the stories!!! thank you!
