The objective of this assignment is for you to undertake a modest piece of economic research, mainly to demonstrate your ability to understand, write about and critically assess a very important economic issue. First, you are asked to characterize the globalization and present the argument for and against it.  Then, using thorough economic analysis you are asked to critically evaluate the statement for and against globalization – as it affects developing nations. In the main part of your essay, you are asked to also discuss in detail why you agree/disagree with any of them.

 

The topic provided is very broad and multifaceted. You will find in your research a multitude of smaller topics that you can formulate under this broad banner.

Here are some approaches to help you focus on your essay: Given the overall; topic or question above, you can ….

 

1. Focus on one or two globalization issues (e.g. employment effects, comparative  analysis of developed and developing country concerns.)

2. Consider a developing region (e.g. South Asia, East Asia, or Africa) and discuss how a globalizing world has affected countries in them.

3. Consider a particular commodity that is traded internationally and on which (some) developing countries  have a high dependence on (e.g. cotton, coffee, even oil/petroleum products, etc) and discuss the many issues on globalization within the context of the relevant industries.
