1. In trying to change the culture of Lakeland Wonders, where did the CEO, Cheryl Hailstrom, go wrong?
Ans: She not part of Swensen family
She is not mindful of the culture
She has no respect to Lake- land Wonders history
Uses too autocratic, threatening, coercive leadership
She wants people to follow her way without getting people involved
She certainly needs to get buy in e.g. Ask Mark for solution on her ideas.
2. What were the reactions to the ways she implemented the changes? How did these reactions impede her plans?
Ans: Outsourcing could mean lost of jobs
Company’s image suffers if outsourced. She did not provide a solution
Delivery concern; Company going offshore to establish a base with no certain
terms– don’t do thing so fast.
She needs to articulate strategy, vision, mission, short term & long term objectives & goals
Lack of openness
Fear of unknowns
3. In what ways could she garner the undivided support of her management team for her plans and presentation at the Board meeting?
Ans: Win over the senior management support
Be frank; talk to senior mgt individually & make them understand survival
or else acquired by others – Reductive strategy
Concern of the union
Respect the culture
Get people involve of what she does
Appoint a team & empower them to take decision
Start talking of the vision
Change her management style
4. What remedial steps can she take now that she is in this impasse?
Ans: Ask board to reduce target, cite people concern & culture.
Go forward, talk to people, and get them excited.
Use reward & recognition
Include people from the union
