Socio-cultural Impact of Drug Abuse and Trafficking among Youth in North Central Nigeria
Drug and alcohol abuse are existing conditions in every society that are proven to render adverse effects to the personal health and lives of abusers and to the society in general. Hence, the government of North Central Nigeria is should be concerned with the eradication of these social problems as well as the treatment of youth abusers and capture of drug dealers. Management of drug and alcohol abuse is a core agenda of the welfare state in general, and social work profession in particular.
The complexities of drug abuse as well as the abusers’ stigmata for being aggressive, criminals or violent offenders sometimes scare citizen and create significant impact to the socio-cultural aspect of North Central Nigeria.
A number of types of drugs are vulnerable to abuse by youths in Nigeria. These drugs range from most common and cheap such as cigarettes and marijuana to expensive and more lethal such as cocaine and heroin.
Youth in any society occupy a fragile and susceptible situation within the population structure.
The drug abuse and trafficking regarding youth offenders creates significant socio-cultural impact in North Central Nigeria.
