Essay Instructions on Community Profile
Part One (2000 words)
You are required to compile a profile of a community. This community profile could be in the area where you are living (Pollards Hill in Merton, Surrey), while at TVU or your learning community where you are attending your clinical placement (Barough of Westminister - Baker Street), as part of your programme. In this profile you are required to carry out the following:
1.Discuss two/three key influences on the health of the local population of your chosen community. Examples of key influences could be: Housing, Environment, Crime, Education, Ethnicity, Employment, Poverty, Leisure, Health Services and Social Care Services.
Identifies and discusses how at least one relevant health and social care policy is implemented in order to address the identified health needs
Needs to include a brief conclusion to sum-up the community profile.
Includes a clear reference list that includes all the literature that you have used in the assignment. The Harvard Referencing System must be used.
The reference list must include information as to where you have found your statistical information and charts.
2.In your community profile, identify relevant health and/or social care policies which might influence the health of the local population living in this community.
You should provide evidence of literature to support your findings and statements, including some simple statistical data.
Part Two (1000 words) - Health Promotion essay:
You are required to select a client group, and discuss a published health promotion leaflet (or similar resource) focusing on a particular health issue which could be used with your client group. Examples of health issues are: smoking, sexual health, healthy eating, exercises, alcohol use, drug misuse.
You need to include your chosen leaflet as an appendix.
Has a title as a heading
Includes an introduction that tells the reader how you are going to develop the assignment
Provides rationale for selecting the client group
Offers definitions of health promotion
Identifies health promotion needs of the group you have chosen, and discusses how the leaflet is the most appropraite in addressing needs.
Critically appraises the presentation and likely effectiveness of the leaflet
Includes the published leaflet as an appendix. Your leaflet can be one that has been published by the Government, a local PCT, a hospital ward, etc.
